Tom Burns realized that he was ovese when he tried to go for a jog around the neighborhood. "Ever bone, muscle, and joint in my bosy was killing me." Tom was 5'8" weighing 220 pounds. He used to play hockey in high school but after taht he stopped all exercise and got heavier and heavier. Two Thirds of America are obese and overweight and if they start sudden exercise it could be dangerous. You have to ease into your exercise. It can even be as simple as a walk because a walk can really get your heart pumping. Today fitness experts say the hardest ppart about being obese is fetting off the couch. So i feel once you get motivated you can do anything you put your mind to.

Most people with type two diabetes have a condition called prediabetes for 5 to 10 years before their diagnosis of diabetes. People who are at risk are anyone overweight and has a family member with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, low HDL, cholestrol, and high triglycerides. I feel that the most common factor to type two diabetes is being overweight. If a person is overweight they do have a huge chance of getting diabetes and they should be tested for it.

The Department of Health did a study and found out that the UK is the "fattest country in Europe." A contrbuting factor to this problem is not labeling foods clearly. In labeling foods clearly it can honestly reduce the number of obese people. 2600 shoppers told the Food Standards Agency (FSA) that they wanted clear and consistent information about the food that they were about to buy. In March 2006 the FSA Board recommended a different approach based on four core contents. First the labeling should provide informations on fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt. Second the information should include the porportion size. And lastly the other two principles use different colors to tell wether the levels of nutrients is high, medium, or low depended on the color they are represented by. I feel that this could really reduce the number of obese people in the UK. If the FSA does this i think that it could be a great idea.

Fast food is the main cause of childrens obesity today in America. It is partially the parents fault. In families sometimes both parents work and they don't want to cook so they will go to a fast food place becuase its easier. This article says that if you can eat fast food every now and then if you simply exercise. But many people are forgetting the factor that exercising is what keeps the weight off. So basically I learned that if you exercise then you can eat the things that you want.

The South Beach diet has been proven a great weight loss method. The south beach diet was first created for those you have diabetes and heart problems, but it expanded into all of American using this simple method. It focuses on whole grains, friuts and vegtables, lean fats and proteins. The Atkins diet is very similar to the South Beach diet they both iliminate charbohydrates out of your diet completly. The South Beach diet has cook books for you to abide by while your one the diet. But Atkins doesn't. They just tell you to strictly cut out carbohydrates, and give some recipes on there website. They website says that South Beach diet was being to postive. They would say things like "13 pounds in 2 weeks" or "cravings are gone" but they never actaully stated real people saying that. So if you need to loose weight one healthy method to choose is the South Beach diet.

In this article it is telling me how much the obesity rate has gone up in America. In 2001 diabetes and heart disease incresd by 10 times then in 1987. They also determined what the cost for food in the years 2001 and 1987. In 1987 the average amount of money that obese Americans payed for was 3.6 million dollars. But in 2001 the average amount of money spent was 36.5 million dollars. This shows that America is greatly increasing there amount of food intake. Obese related illnesses accounted for 11.6% of all health care spending in 2001. I feel that this has really gone up and that we need to do something about it to change it.
